Emilia-Romagna, 7-days itinerary
Food itinerary published on Fora
Emilia-Romagna is the place where cars are fast and food is slow. Where Parmigiano Reggiano, Ferrari, Lasagne, Prosciutto di Parma, Ducati, Aceto Balsamico, Maserati, and Mortadella were born, Emilia-Romagna is Italy’s most renowned cuisine heaven. Yet, it is often overshadowed by other quintessentially Italian destinations; sure, Rome is breathtaking, Venice is unique, and Florence is mandatory, but so are Parma, Modena, or Bologna. I am a big fan of public transportation when hopping between Italian cities, with Trenitalia and Italo providing convenient access to city centers while sparing you with dreaded ZTL tickets. However, for this itinerary, renting a car is a no-brainer. There’s really no better way to explore the smooth Apennine hills and unearth the hidden Fellinian gems while rolling down to the Adriatic Sea. With this seven-day itinerary, you’ll fall head over heels for the memorable cuisine, the warm-hearted people, and the idyllic landscapes of this incredibly rich dual region: Emilia in the north (Piacenza to Ferrara) and Romagna in the south (Ravenna to Rimini). Bologna - in the center - with its iconic portici, cultural vibrancy, and laid-back lifestyle, may make you contemplate a permanent move; it has that effect.
